Crystal Spotlight - Sunstone!

Hey Friends!

Welcome to the June Crystal Spotlight featuring Sunstone! Sunstone is part of the Feldspar community (always want to sing Tori when I hear of Feldspar….”you drank my tenderness, Feldspar and Mica then you thought that you would own my temple of Gold. IYKYK) and its name is based on its colors. Sunstone displays aventurescence that is caused by refracting light from mineral inclusions. Aventurescence is an optical reflectance effect. The result of this effect is what appears to be metallic glitter throughout a stone when held at various angles.

To quote Sabrina Benaim, “light hits everything at a different angle, I will make a habit of tilting my head.” Tilt your head or the stone to fully appreciate all it has to aesthetically offer.

Metaphysically, Sunstone is an abundance stone. I feel like we hear the word “abundance” a lot, and it seems to encompass a whole swath of things, or nothing at all when it’s used generically. When it comes to Sunstone, it brings in an abundance of…joy, luck, independence, originality, and confidence, to name just a few. When wearing Sunstone it can make you feel alive and happy. While working, it can help push you toward promotions and leadership. Going for an MRI? It can help alleviate fears of claustrophobia.

Sunstone carries Yang energy, a sort of opposite of Moonstone. Using these two stones together can help balance out the energies of Yin and Yang, god and goddess, and light and dark. Sunstone carries the energy of Ra, the Egyptian sun god. Ra is the god of creation, and it is believed in the Egyptian pantheon that Ra brings all potential life from within the Earth.

Sunstone feels right to me for the month of June, the month where we welcome Summer. With the Sun approaching his peak in the sky, June is the perfect time to tap into the energy of the Sun god. You can harness this energy by holding onto a piece of Sunstone while you meditate, wear it as jewelry, keep it on you in your pocket, or tucked inside your bra or sock. It’s aesthetically pleasing (aren’t they all?) so it will graciously adorn your mantle, your desk, or any space in your home that could use the warmth of the Sun year round.
